Southern Section 4-A Gymnastics : Healthy Myers Helps Arroyo Defeat Dana Hills for Title
Last Wednesday, Dana Hills edged Arroyo in the Southern Section 4-A gymnastics preliminaries, with a score of 176.5 to Arroyo’s 175.65.
But with a healthy Stefani Myers on hand for the 4-A finals held Wednesday at Cal Poly Pomona, Arroyo returned the favor, winning the championship with an overall score of 176.65.
Dana Hills finished second with a score of 174.35, followed by Capistrano Valley with 173.35.
Myers, who competed in only two events in the preliminaries due to injuries, was doubtless the factor that enabled the Knights to win the competition.
She received the highest individual score in the vault (9.25) and uneven parallel bars (9.30). Her score on the bars was equaled by two of her teammates, Katie Marimoto and Missy Stafford. Myers scored 8.6 in the balance beam and 9.0 in the floor exercise.
Arroyo won three events in the team scoring, with marks of 44.10 on the vault, 45.70 on the bars, and 44.90 on the floor exercise.
Dana Hills totaled 43.05 in the vault and 43.65 in the bars for second-place finishes. On the balance beam they received a 42.95, and on the floor exercise a 44.70.
