Saugus 15, Miraleste 9--The teams combined for 7 home runs in a slugfest at Miraleste in the ninth-place consolation semifinals.

Hitting home runs for Saugus (2-2) were Tom Dodson, George Lopata, Chad Keene, Mike Osment and Roger Salkeld. Dodson, a senior who caught and played third base, was 5 for 5 with 3 RBIs, including a 2-run double.

Trailing, 3-0, Saugus led off the second inning with a solo home run by Dodson. The hit was followed by a single by Jared Snyder and back-to-back home runs by Lopata and Keene.

Miraleste (1-3) tied the score, 7-7, in the fourth inning, but Saugus exploded for 7 runs in the fifth. Osment hit a 2-run home run and Dodson doubled to score Joe Palomino and Darrell Davis. Salkeld added a solo home run.

Westlake 9, Artesia 5--The Warriors homered twice in the second inning--a solo shot by Craig Cooper and a three-run shot by Mike Suarez--to win the ninth-place semifinal round game at Artesia.

John Chiaramonte pitched 5 innings for his second win against no losses, and John Brookman pitched the final 2 for his second save.

John Stephens led the Warriors’ 10-hit attack with 3 singles.

Alhambra 9, Crespi 6--The Celts came back from a 4-run deficit to lead, 5-4, and then left the bases loaded in the seventh before losing for the third time in four games.

Starter John Dempsey was the losing pitcher in his first decision.

Crespi’s Chad Nichols was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs, and Greg Barton was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 1 run scored. Crespi’s Mark Cavaretta had a double and 3 walks. He also had an RBI and scored twice.

Alhambra improved to 2-2.

Alemany 3-9, Norwalk 2-2--The Indians (6-0) got back-to-back doubles by Billy Horvat and Mike Sims in the seventh inning of the first game and scored 5 runs in the second inning of the second game to sweep the nonleague doubleheader at Norwalk.

In the first game, Tom Daniels and John Lite combined for a 3-hitter, giving up only 2 runs in the fifth inning. Alemany answered with 2 runs in the sixth and the game-winner in the seventh. Sims had 2 hits.

The Indians pounded 7 hits in the second game, including Joey Rosselli’s 2-run double in the second and an RBI single by Greg Biley.

In the fifth, John Wright singled with the bases loaded to drive in two runs. Starter Charlie Winner went the distance for his second win against no losses.

Agoura 19, Moorpark 2--Agoura (3-0) pounded three pitchers for 16 hits to register a nonleague rout at Agoura. The victory began quickly as Mike Maggiora hit a home run on the second pitch in the bottom of the first inning. Maggiora was 4 for 5 with 2 doubles, 1 home run and 2 RBIs. Ryan Dietz was 2 for 4 with 4 RBIs.

Agoura had a 6-run fourth inning and an 8-run fifth that was highlighted by a 3-run home run by Brian Smith. Smith was 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs.

Jeff Ritter (2-0) struck out 5 with no walks in four innings to earn the win. Moorpark’s Kelly Kira was charged with the loss after yielding 5 hits and 5 runs in 2 innings.
